Limbo Rock! How Low Can The Treasury Yield Curve Go? (Now At -70 Basis Points, Most Inverted Since 1981)

How low will the US Treasury 10y-2y yield curve go?

As of today, the US Treasury 10yr-2yr yield curve is the most inverted since 1981 at -70 basis points.

Meanwhile, equity put/call ratio from CBOE spiked yesterday to highest since 1997.

I am disappointed that The New York Times cancelled their $2,400 event to listen to Sam The Sham Bankman-Fried, Vlad “Show my your money!” Zelensky, Larry “The Big Fink” Fink and Janet “We never saw it coming” Yellen. I would have loved to do the New York Times job for them and ask hard questions to Sam The Sham and Zelensky about money laundering.

MMT Alert! US Debt At $10.7 Trillion In Q4 2008, Now At $30.6 Trillion, +186% In 14 Years (M2 Money UP +162.5%) US Unfunded Liabilities At $172.4 TRILLION!

Ever since the financial crisis of 2008 and the election of President Obama and a Democrat Congressional sweep, the US has embraced Modern Monetary Theory (MMT or borrow, print and spend without consequence). And between the financial crisis and the Covid crisis of 2008, we have seen an increase in US public debt from $10.7 trillion in Q4 2008 to a staggering $30.6 trillion as of Q2 2022. That is a staggering increase of 186% in only 14 years.

How about US Money stock? M2 Money stock has grown by 162.5% since the beginning of 2009 and the “Blue Wave” of 2008. And nothing has been the same.

The Covid outbreak in early 2020, we saw Fed money printing that has never seen before … or since. But one thing is for sure, M2 Money Velocity (GDP/M2) is near all-time lows.

Then we have headline US inflation as a function of M2 Money growth YoY.

To paraphrase Alexander Dayne from Galaxy Quest, “They broke the financial system, they broke the bloody financial system!”

And it is the midterm election “silly season” where no politician will discuss the complete and utter mess they have made. According to US Debt Clock, US national debt is already up to $31.26 trillion (OMG!), but the REALLY scary number that not a single politician will address is UNFUNDED LIABILITIES OF $172.4 TRILLION.

Can we go back to the gold standard? Or silver standard? Or ANY standard for that matter??

Instead, we have porous borders and patently UNSOUND money, thanks to MMT.

US Mortgage Rates Rise To 7.04% As Housing Market Chills (WTI Crude And Gasoline Prices On The Rise Again As Biden Fails To Convince OPEC To Pump More Oil)

Under “Nuclear Joe” Biden, the US is truly the land of confusion.

As the Biden Administration touts “affordable housing,” we are seeing the 30-year mortgage rate rise above 7% as The Federal Reserve fights inflation … caused by the Biden Administration. Meanwhile, US home prices are falling.

The Biden Administration launched a war on domestic energy production, resulting in crude oil prices rising 74% under Biden and regular gasoline prices rising 62.4%.

As Biden pleaded with OPEC to increase oil production, he was embarrassingly rejected. Hence, West Texas Crude Oil prices have begun to rise again along with gasoline prices (pink box).

How about unemployment and the 10yr-2yr yield curve?

Inflation Is SO Bad That REAL Home Price Growth Has Slowed To 2.23% YoY While REAL Wage Growth Is -3.31% YoY (As Fed’s M2 Money Growth Slows)

When inflation is so bad that REAL wage growth is negative (-3.31% YoY), I would hardly call that a strong economy for the middle class and low-wage workers.

We also see that REAL home price growth (existing home sales median price YoY – CPI YoY) has slowed to only 2.23% YoY in July.

As The Fed tightens, it is only growing to get worse.

Perhaps Biden can enthrall us with yet another “Corn Pop was a bad dude” story.

Renter Misery Index At 17.42% With Traditional Misery Index At 10.80% (Biden Says $5 TRILLION “Build Back Better Boondoggle” Will Relieve Inflation Over 10 Years)

Renters in the US are getting clobbered by inflation.

The US Zillow Rent Index All Homes YoY + CPI YoY is one measure of renter misery.

The classic misery index (CPI YoY + U-3 unemployment rate) is 10.80%.

Then there is inflation in food prices, gasoline, heating oil, natural gas, etc.

While Biden is releasing the Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR) in order to mitigate the problem that he created by terminating the energy pipelines and oil/natural gas drilling permits in the name of “Going Green!” But on the announcement of tapping the SPR, crude oil futures actually rose.

But never fear! Biden claims that his $5 TRILLION Build Back Better Boondoggle (BBBB) will ease inflation … over 10 years. And he claims that “17 Nobel Prize winners in economics have said that my plan will “ease inflationary pressures.”” I sincerely doubt that any of them actually read the 2,500 page BBBB. Rather, they likely just read the White House talking points and said “Hey, that sounds good!” Mo money, less problems?

Here is Joe Biden breaking the legs of America’s renters. Or is that multi-millionaire Nancy Pelosi?
